White can play this line to avoid a lot of Sicilian theory. This opening happened in the 1996 Kasparov VS DeepBlue match. Kasparov played black and was able to get a draw against the powerful machine. In another game using this same variation as black he lost.

Deep Blue

In the 1996 match, Deep Blue would play this line as white against Kasparov’s Sicilian Defense. It was probably programmed to favor this line against the Sicilian Defense. This is good to know as now you can adopt this system to play against the Sicilian Defense! Now just practice beeping like a computer after each move!
